NFL players have been getting paid more than $10 million per year for coverage under their new collective bargaining agreement, according to the NFL Players Association.
The figures were provided to The Associated Press by a source who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on the record.
The union has said the average salary of players under contract with the NFL was about $11.7 million in 2017.
The average salary for the average season in 2019 was about half that.
The union has been trying to negotiate a new collective-bargaining agreement since the players last unionized in March 2016, which ended with the players agreeing to pay a record $765 million to buy out the union in 2019.
But that deal was struck before the players had to begin negotiating their new contract with their new owners, who had their first season in office in 2021.
